This work investigates the concept of pain as a physical and psychological event. I portray inner pain by means of a metaphor that relates to the physical element of that pain. This metaphor exposes the emotional pain that cannot be seen and therefore cannot easily be related to. This work speaks of a personal rite of passage involving scarification via a traditional stick-and-poke tattoo used during rituals.
